Sewing Station Information:

To ensure a smooth setup for our event, we will have assigned seating to help us organize stations, set up reserved sewing machines, and place projects for each student. You will be placed with the people you requested in your Attendee Form. Thank you for helping us streamline the check-in process!

Each student will have ample sewing space with their own 6ft sewing table. Large cutting and pressing stations will be available through the sewing area. There will be 3 teaching stations around the room, and the pop up store fabric section will be in its own room down the hallway by the bathrooms.

You are welcome to bring a small table and a mini-iron to have at your station. If you are driving in and own a Sew Steady Table (the clear tables that fit your machine), bring it with you as we will be doing some fun Tips & Tricks at one of our nightly demos. Extra lighting is allowed in the classroom, but please avoid bringing magnifying glass combos as they have been known to start fires.

Please be mindful of those around you by refraining from wearing perfumes or highly scented lotions, as some people may have allergies or sensitivities.

Program Schedule

The general program schedule is provided below if you are interested in how your day-to-day will work! Your week will include special events, check-in, and check-out information!

Sunday, September 14th:

  • 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Check-In. Early check-in to the sewing area will not be allowed. Thank you for your understanding and patience. 4:00 p.m. or after, please come to the Ballroom at The Grove Hotel and stop at the check-in station to receive your badge. You’ll then be shown to your sewing table. Instruction and tutorials on using your machines will be provided. You will also meet your instructors to get started on cutting papers for your first class, which will start on Monday.
  • 7:00 p.m. Welcome Reception: A Welcome Reception with snacks and refreshments starts at 7:00 p.m. We will introduce Judy and her CI team, plus meet Judel & Stitch n’ Snip Staff. We will have a small Trunk Show with Judy and learn a little more about the week that you will be spending with us! Please note, you will be on your own for dinner Sunday evening before you check in.
  • 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.: For those who wish to stay with us in the evening, we will continue with machine demos, meeting instructors, and learning basic cutting techniques for Monday’s first class. We would like to request that as students; you concentrate on cutting out your papers and wait until Monday morning to start on your project so that everyone starts at the same place as the other students for Monday’s classes. Teachers will not be in the classroom after 10 p.m. and the shop will not be open past 10 p.m. on Sunday given that Monday is a busy day for everyone!

Free Gift:

For those of you who have attended Quiltworx University before, you are aware that we always provide you with a Surprise Quiltworx Pattern! This is Judy’s choice, and it is different at each event! When you open your box, if there is a pattern in there you don’t recognize, please be aware, this is our Gift to You! If you would like to choose fabrics for it during the week, we can help you at the shop! Or, if you have the perfect fabrics at home, you can definitely save it for that. Sometimes people open this and begin cutting into it, thinking this is their design. Please save it for later! It is our gift to you!

Onsite Quilt Shop!:

One of the most amazing parts of this event is the onsite quilt shop, which will have hundreds of bolts of fabric, kits, paper piecing tools, notions and more available for you throughout the week. The staff from Stitch n’ Snip will be on site to not only help you with any quilting supplies you might need, but also to help Judel Niemeyer kit custom Quiltworx patterns in colorways you love, using Quiltster!

Daily Schedule (September 15th to 19th, Monday to Friday):

  • 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.: Breakfast is on your own and open sew.
  • 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: Morning Classes
  • 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Lunch will be held in the dining area in the Ballroom
  • 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: Afternoon Classes
  • 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.: Afternoon Break & Open Sew (The workshop is over at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 19th.)
  • 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.: Afternoon programs & demos, Quiltster demonstrations, or open sew.
  • Dinner 6:00 p.m.: Dinner will be held in the dining area in the Ballroom
  • Post Dinner: Trunk Shows, nightly demos with Stitch n’ Snip, open sew until Midnight, and shopping will be offered until 10 p.m. Instructors will be available every night until 10 p.m. as well.

Classes:

In general, we will work on the following sections of your quilts on the following days. When you get to the event, there will be a box with your schedule, pattern, and fabrics at each station. There will also be a schedule that outlines which classes each teacher will be teaching throughout the day in case you want to attend another class. Please reference your personal schedules to learn which instructors are teaching each workshop on each day. There will be a morning and afternoon session of each class, unless all students show up for the morning (some groups are smaller than others). So, if you feel the class is large or want to see it again, or possibly have multiple workshops on the same day because you have purchased more than one kit, do not worry! We will have plenty of time to teach you what you need to know:

  • Monday - Group A – JNQ2217DIA
  • Tuesday Morning – Group B JNQ00257-B
  • Tuesday Afternoon – Group J JNQ00257-E and JNQ00257-J
  • Wednesday Morning – Group JNQ16x16TRI
  • Thursday Morning – Groups D JNQ00281-D and JNQ00242-D
  • Thursday Afternoon – Group H JNQ00277-H
  • Thursday Night – Group JNQ00284-K

We try to run Quiltster demonstrations for interested students. We need to work out some AV equipment and a location during the event that we can use and we will announce times and locations on the first day for interested students.

  • Custom Kits! Throughout the week, Judel will be working to create custom kits for customers using fabrics available at the Onsite Quilt Shop. She will take custom orders through Thursday, mid-day, so if you are hoping for a special kit project to take home with you of your favorite Quiltworx design, please think about it and come prepared with some ideas! She will use Quiltster, then send the project information to your Quiltster accounts and also to the shop so they can kit!
  • Trunk Shows from instructors and students will be held throughout the week if you are interested. Feel free to bring a few projects to show off if you can spare the space! We’d love to see your special touches to Quiltworx projects you’ve made over the years! Featured this year, the Jungle Magnolia, new publications, ColorStock, Tim Holtz designs, Kaffe and Tula, and some amazing projects from the Quilt Store, and other attendees at the Retreat!

Judy will be available for demonstrations on other techniques beyond just those used in the units for the workshop as time permits. She will also be in the teaching room on most nights (perhaps not all) after dinner, to discuss workshop needs in general.

  • The Certified Shop will be available throughout the week for supplies, quilt kits, fabric, and anything else you may need to satisfy your quilting desires! In general, the shop will close at 10:00 p.m. and open at 8:00 a.m. each day.
  • On Friday, class will end at 3:00 p.m. Students can check out early and head home, or stay for the duration of class, but this year, we ask that you begin taking apart your sewing station at 3:00 p.m. Checking out at the store will take place beginning Thursday evening and into Friday morning. We will be packing up and preparing for the end of class throughout the day as appropriate. With a limited window to clear the area, this is important for us to accomplish.

Ready, Set, Plan Your Projects!

Hello everyone! We're beyond excited about this upcoming retreat, and the beautiful design options Judy and Brad have created especially for you! We're pleased to present your exclusive project, which features exciting NEW blocks and layouts for the Kaleidoscope Mixer series which can be purchased for this workshop through Quiltster or the onsite shop hosted by Stitch n' Snip.

⚠️IMPORTANT⚠️

Because of the size and complexity of the project and the class, students MUST work on only the Kaleidoscope Mixer for this event.

PLAN YOUR PROJECT!

Planning your Quiltworx University project offers three exciting paths, each tailored to different quilting preferences and levels of customization.

OPTION 1 - PURCHASE A PUBLISHED PATTERN AND PREPARE YOUR OWN PROJECT: If you prefer to start with a published pattern, this option allows you to purchase Confetti Cake or Fields of Aster patterns through Certified Shop Stitch n' Snip, Quiltworx, or the Quiltster Event Portal (you must be logged into your Quiltster account). With yardage charts included, you’ll source and prepare your own fabric, ensuring everything is cut, labeled, and ready for class. This choice is ideal for quilters who enjoy selecting their own materials while working within a structured design.

OPTION 2 - CHOOSE A PRE-DESIGNED KIT: For those who prefer a streamlined experience, this option provides pre-designed kits, exclusively created for this event. These Kaleidoscope Mixer kits offer a variety of curated designs, eliminating the need for fabric selection or pattern customization. As part of your enrollment, you will receive a six-month Quiltster account, which is essential for purchasing your kit. This option is perfect for quilters who want a beautifully coordinated project without the extra work of choosing individual elements.

OPTION 3 - DESIGN YOUR OWN CUSTOM QUILT:  This option offers the ultimate creative freedom, allowing you to design your own custom quilt. Through Quiltster’s platform, you can mix and match blocks, select fabrics from Stitch n' Snip’s collection, and even explore six different quilt sizes for a fully personalized project. Your six-month Quiltster subscription enables you to experiment with endless combinations, or, for additional guidance, you can consult Judel Niemeyer for a design fee to refine your vision. This option is ideal for those who love innovation and want their quilt to be truly one-of-a-kind.

⚠️IMPORTANT⚠️

Yardage and purchasing options are not available yet. We're working to have them ready by June 15th. Until then, no need to worry about yardage details or fabric availability!

Purchase a Confetti Cake or Fields of Aster Pattern

Both patterns are available for purchase through Stitch n' Snip. If you select Option 1, you will have the flexibility to choose your own fabrics and assemble your kit using the yardage details provided with the pattern. Once you place your order, the pattern will be shipped to you. For those interested in a pre-arranged kit, Stitch n' Snip also offers the option to create one upon request—simply reach out to them directly.

Kaleidoscope Mixer Kits

If selecting blocks and fabrics feels overwhelming, we’ve got you covered with exclusive fabric kits designed by Judel Niemeyer and Anna Gardner of Stitch n' Snip—available only to event attendees.

By choosing this option, we’ll handle all the prep work for you. Your kit will be cut and fully prepared for class, eliminating the need for any advance preparation. We’ll bring it directly to the workshop, so all you have to do is start sewing!

To order, locate your desired kit in Quiltster by clicking on Quilt Planner from your Dashboard. Scroll down to the bottom and click the blue Enter button next to Quiltworx University Boise 2025 to begin. Open the project by clicking Customize, give it a name, and save it to your account.

Hold onto your project and refine it as much as you like until ordering opens in mid-June 2025. We’ll send out an announcement when it’s time! Once ordering is live, simply click Add to Cart, follow the checkout process, and your kit will be ready for the event. Choose one—or more—of Judel and Anna’s inspiring designs!
