Craft, sewing, sewing machines have been in my life for as long as I can remember. Nan, Grandma and Mum were always making something, generally clothing. My first memory of sewing is making dolls clothes. Over the years this progressed to mainly clothes and basic patchwork. Being a full-time primary school teacher kept me busy and so the sewing machine became a distant memory. Life throws up many challenges and after one of the more difficult times, I bought a new, more reliable sewing machine than I had previously. Leonie was advertising her Quiltworx quilts and retreats…I needed to go as this was an excitingly new adventure. Eventually I was able to attend one, wow, complex, precise work, that just worked. There were challenges that really need to be thought about, and also easy piecing after a hard day.. A few projects on, I felt this was something I could share with other people, support them to achieve their own quality of work. So began, my journey to certification with Quiltworx. Having completed my certification and now teaching at a School of the Air, working with 4- to 6-year-olds via Zoom, I am willing and ready to support people to make their own masterpieces in person or via video conferencing.
