Since graduating, Julie has worked in Clinical Research and is currently a Senior Director, Project Management where she trains and coaches Project Managers while overseeing drug development programs in Cardiovascular Medicine. In her free time, Julie loves to be in her garden, teaches & plays the piano, plays the violin, enjoys the beautiful outdoors in BC, photography, scrapbooking, cooking healthy meals and travels the world. Of course she is passionate about patchwork and quilting and spends many hours making them.
Julie has been quilting since she was about five when her grandmother taught her how to English Paper Piece. Her first quilt was made by hand using a hexagon template made by her grandfather which she drew round onto cereal packets and a slightly larger one for the fabric. It was a slow process but made with many memorable hours at her grand-parents house in England. Julie loves all needle crafts and has spent many hours doing sewing, knitting, crochet, cross stitch and needlepoint.
In 1999 Julie was transferred by work from the UK to the USA where she discovered the world of machine piecing and quilting. Since then she has taken many classes with many quilt designers and has lost count of the number of quilts she has made!! While in the States she took a teacher training course with C&T publishing and has continued to teach others to make quilts of their own.
In 2004 Julie immigrated to Canada and now lives in New Westminster BC. Julie discovered Judy Niemeyer not long after arriving in Canada and fell in love with all of Quiltworx designs. Julie’s first Quiltworx quilt was the seasonal table runner and since then Julie has attended several retreats and classes with Judy and other Certified Instructors. Julie has made over 175 Quiltworx designed quilts and is now addicted to foundation paper piecing and the process Judy has developed. Having a scientific but also creative brain, Julie loves the precision and complexity of the designs combined with the organisation process and the ease and simplicity with which they come together – it’s her favourite way to make quilts!
Julie loves to “piece a memory – one patch at a time” and share her passion for quilt design and colour while making beautiful quilts with others. She looks forward to helping more people develop the skills and confidence to successfully complete any Quiltworx pattern they choose to work on as she teaches at retreats and classes in Canada.
