Julie Belin’s quilting career began nearly four decades ago after receiving a quilt as a wedding gift. When her husband remarked, “You could make that,” Julie decided to take on the challenge, launching a lifelong passion for quilting. Although she began as a self-taught quilter, her professional background as an engineer and high school math teacher strongly shaped her approach to quilting, resulting in a focus on precision, logical construction, and efficient methods that support successful outcomes.
Julie has been a certified quilt instructor since 2016 for various quilting design companies. In 2026, she proudly added Quiltworx to her teaching credentials and is excited to share the Quiltworx foundation paper piecing process with quilters nationwide. She teaches workshops and lectures for quilt guilds, retreats, and quilt shows across the country, focusing on tools, techniques, and thoughtful construction methods that help quilters tackle complex designs with confidence. Julie is especially passionate about quilting education and enjoys helping quilters turn challenging patterns into achievable, rewarding, and fun projects.
At the heart of Julie’s teaching philosophy is the belief that quilting is both a creative and problem-solving process. While she firmly believes there are no “quilt police,” she values good quilting practices and enjoys sharing techniques that improve accuracy, streamline construction, and build efficiencies into every step of the process. Her clear instruction, thoughtful pacing, and encouraging teaching style help students feel supported while developing both skills and confidence.
When she is not teaching or lecturing, Julie remains actively involved in the quilting community. She works with multiple guilds, quilts for charitable organizations, and operates Blue Oaks Quilting, her long-arm quilting and teaching business. When she steps away from the studio, she enjoys spending time in her garden.
