Anne began sewing at an early age and completed her first quilt—a Log Cabin—while still in high school. During that time, she purchased her first sewing machine (which she still owns today), paying for it with money earned sewing bridesmaid dresses and aprons for local restaurants. Professionally, Anne spent her career as an accountant with an international firm in the music industry.
Anne’s introduction to foundation paper piecing began at the Phoenix Quilt Show, where a friend pointed out several New York Beauty quilts. Intrigued, Anne went home and researched the design, discovering a pattern book by an Australian quilter. This ambitious project became a year-long endeavor and predated many of the techniques and templates later introduced through Judy Niemeyer’s methods.
While working on this quilt, Anne realized that formal instruction would be beneficial and enrolled in a foundation paper piecing class offered by the Woodstock Quilt Guild in her hometown. The class, taught by instructor Sherida Giddings, focused on the Compass Rose pattern. After completing the project, Anne sought Sherida’s guidance for her next challenge and was introduced to Wild Goose Island.
Anne’s next inspiration came during a visit to the Heritage Park Quilt Festival in Calgary, where she admired the Vintage Rose quilt prominently displayed at the Wainwright Hotel. At that festival, Anne met Certified Instructor Michele Rondot of Calgary, who offered to sell her the Vintage Rose pattern on the condition that Anne attend one of Michele’s retreats. Michele also encouraged Anne to attend a Quiltworx Retreat and Quiltworx University that same year—marking the beginning of Anne’s Certified Instructor journey.
In addition to training with Michele Rondot, Anne also had the opportunity to work under the direction of Certified Instructor Kelly Grant of Cactus Quilting in Surprise, Arizona.
Anne is a member of both the Woodstock Quilt Guild and the Calgary Silver Thimbles Quilt Guild.
In December 2025, Riley Blake Designs announced that Anne would be joining the Create Colourfully with Riley Blake Designs Batiks group. She looks forward to creating and sharing new projects through this exciting fabric sponsorship.
Anne especially enjoys teaching beginners who are new to the world of foundation paper piecing. Her students often describe her as easygoing, approachable, and very patient. Anne looks forward to sharing her love of Quiltworx patterns and techniques in classrooms, at retreats, guild meetings, or on quilting cruises. Whether you are a beginner or have a long-standing Quiltworx UFO waiting in your closet, Anne looks forward to quilting with you.
