Judy Niemeyer, owner and CEO of Quiltworx.com, founded the company after nearly 20 years of creating custom quilts, raising her children, and teaching at the Quilt Gallery in Kalispell, MT. Using her family’s engineering expertise, she revolutionized traditional quilting with technology, speeding up the process, creating previously impossible designs, and developing foundation paper piecing techniques to eliminate many of the challenges that quilters face in the quest to create the “perfect quilt.”
In recent years, she has become a designer for Timeless Treasures Fabrics with her daughter, Judel, and oversees the creation of 30 quilts annually. Her comprehensive involvement ensures high-quality outcomes that she incorporates into her pattern instructions. She hosts two Quiltworx Universities and about 10 retreats annually for in-person instruction. In 2020, she launched a YouTube channel as well, where she can hold live teaching events, accessible indefinitely to quilters. In 2024, she began offering regular workshops in conjunction with the Quiltworx Subscription Box. While she is the first to acknowledge that she is no longer the only person responsible for the daily operations of Quiltworx, she remains a guiding force, and is proud of her innovative and hardworking team.
Judel, Judy’s eldest, embarked on her journey with Quiltworx full-time, in 2014, transitioning from a part-time role—where she balanced packaging patterns and assisting with writing alongside her career as a Civil Engineer. Today, she leads a Quiltworx team of 14 to orchestrate the production of the Quiltworx Pattern line. She also oversees a world-wide Certified Instructor and Shop Program that spans Europe, North America, and the South Pacific, and collaborates with leading fabric companies to design exclusive colorways for Quiltworx publications, featuring the latest collections from top designers. Judel’s creative vision also shines through in the fabric lines she co-creates with Judy for Timeless Treasures Fabrics, making her an indispensable force in the quilting community.
Brad Niemeyer is the creative force behind Quiltworx.com, serving as the lead designer with nearly 30 years of unparalleled design experience in the quilting industry. Since high school, Brad has been using AutoCAD to transform Judy’s imaginative concepts into stunning quilts. His exceptional design skills have addressed and solved key quilting challenges, such as floating points, smart corners, TRP lines, off-set seams, pressing strategies that reduce bulk, and curved paper piecing. Brad has essentially set the industry standard for pattern design. From guide lines and labels to organization and template space optimization, Brad has meticulously crafted solutions for effective fabric placement, minimizing cutting waste, and ensuring all pieces stay on grain to reduce stretching. With Judy’s expertise in sewing techniques and desired outcomes, Brad has significantly expanded the scope of foundation paper piecing techniques. Together, they have established Quiltworx as the leading name in foundation paper piecing patterns in the quilting world today.
